39 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Today’s Inspiration: We carelessly say we love God and yet hate our brother whether biological or family of Christ. The first commandment is to love God and 2nd commandment is to love our neighbour as yourself. To love is to love God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our mind. Matthew 22:37-39. Jesus pays emphasis on these 3 elements- Heart because what we speak is a reflection of the heart, mind because it can be defiled with lies of the enemy about ourselves because of our past. It displays not our true self that God destined us to be. War within yourself and others starts with the mind. Soul is your mind, intellect and emotions. Your feelings can be sins only when you dwell on it. For instance, anger is not sin until you dwell on it and becomes bitterness that cause critical illness.
Are you growing in love? One of the spiritual indicators of our spiritual growth is the willingness to love. Love is not something God does but He is Love. 1 John 4:8.
You can never be more godly, never more like God than when you love. God assessed our growth by our loving Him through the way we love others.
Jesus makes the second commandment as important as the first. We cannot fulfil the first commandment to love God without obeying the second commandment to love others even our neighbour. 1 John 4:20.
Our neighbour means everyone God placed at our path who needs us. Luke 10:29-37 the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritan was more compassionate and more commendable to Jesus. Jesus assessed our love through acts of kindness to others who are in need.
So walk in the spirit so you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16.
