1 Timothy 2:15
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
Scripture says that though Eve was deceived, she will be saved in child bearing and if they continue in faith, love and holiness with self control. 1 Timothy 2:15. This is the requirement of salvation and applies not only to woman but everyone on earth for the verse mentioned ‘they’ and childbearing refers to birth of spiritual seed. Also all mankind on earth are the Bride of Christ.
This scripture also tells us faith, love and holiness must be with self control. The minute we are born again we take on new man and discard the old man in us. Many a time we are our own enemy because we have no self control. The one that failed us is our thought and our tongue and James devotes the whole of Chapter 3 about the tongue. Our tongue is small but can be very damaging. I have learnt self control by guarding my heart with God’s word. It is not easy because man are prone to anger but if we ask the Lord to help us He will do it. 1 Thes 5:24. God’s peace will guard your heart.
We need to know that God is holy so we must be holy. To attain the fruit of self control, we need to have the fear of God and be convicted by His word through the Holy spirit. James told us that if we cannot bridle our tongue, our heart is deceived then our faith is useless. James 1:26.
We are unable to have self control because we cannot control the child of our past who always deceives us and this opens the door to the devil to use us. Eph 5:27.
Instead, whatever we do in word or deed they must be edifying because as believers we are required to do them in the name of the Lord and be thankful. Col 3.17 Let us not allow the devil even an inch to use us as it affects our well being and inheritance in the Lord.
It is always the anger accumulated from our childhood caused by injustice that failed us. Anger ruined relationship between spouses and also with children due to lack of self control. It is in this context that we always ask people not to be provoked to anger but give the offences of people’s judgementalism, manipulative, critical and controlling spirit to the Lord for He cares for your well being 1 Pet 5:7.
Hence self control is absolutely important. Whoever has no rule over his spirit is like a city broken down without walls. Pro 25:28. King Solomon says your inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak the right things. Pro 23:16. Pleasant words are like honey comb. It is sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. Pro 16:24. Hence it is important not to react to preserve our soul. Let us exercise self control in the home especially and in the church family that all be well with us.
