Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Today’s Inspiration: Today even Christians are drawn to compromise with the world. Instead of bringing Christ’s culture to the world, we are being influenced by world culture. Jesus already condemned the world. Friendship with the world is enmity with God. We carry God’s light, therefore our light must shine before men. We must model Christ’s character. We must bring light wherever we go. Matthew 5:14-16.

It is right to enjoy what we have but it is wrong to believe that self indulgent pleasure is the goal of life. History has revealed that it is not true that the more you possess the better your life. There are so many jealous colleagues around us. The enemy uses them and we must be alert and avoid the landmine. In a moment our bubble may burst.

God passes sentence not only on the rich fool but also on every life based on covetousness which is idolatry the last commandment. As Jesus said You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Luke 12:15. God alone is the source of life. God alone controls life, God alone gives life. You never know when your life is taken from you or when your finances will be stripped off. V20. Richness towards God matters. V21.

Many who vie for success materially are now unable to lift up their heads because of critical illness. No man is in control of their possessions nor their life. What you have is His loan to you. He can call back the loan anytime. King Solomon says he must leave his wealth to his successor and who knows whether he is wise enough to handle his wealth. Ecclesiastes 2:19. A man who stores up things for himself is not rich towards God.

Is your heart anxious so much that it weighs you down? Proverbs 12:25. Physically this is so. People suffer from ulcers not so much of what they eat as from what eats them. Anxiety steals emotional peace and thoughts and spiritual assurance. To worry foolishly is to forget we are God’s valued children and who He is. He is our loving Father.

Worry is futile v25-28. As we do our reflection, we know worry can’t change things. Worry is faithless v29-31 and unbelief which is sin. How much better to entrust ourselves to our loving Father who cares even for the sparrows and the lilies of the field. Only His kingdom is worthy of our concern. Matthew 6:33. God be praised!
