31 For the Lord will not cast off forever.
32 Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies.
Today’s Inspiration: Many parents make the mistake of turning away their children who live lifestyles different from their teaching and the way they live. When the children insist on their way being influenced by the world, it is heart aching to the parents. They find their efforts have gone to waste.
But we should never give up nor ignore them because if we do, we risk them exposing to other voices and other loves that would appear to be more caring but in actual fact, by ignoring, we are leading them away from the One who cared for them- God Himself.
God patiently waits for us to change and keeps drawing us back to Him. Lamentations 3:31-32. Man are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though He brings grief, He still shows compassion; so great is God’s unfailing love. God never intended to bring affliction and grief to His children. Suffering is part and parcel of the salvation package for God’s name to be glorified when change takes place at the end of the pruning. It is good always to examine our ways and return to the Lord. Verse 40. The Gospel is about change and about an invitation to a relationship with God and man, not a legal summon to hear.
In my experience, you should never give up on a child. Put your hope in God. I read a story of how a father never gave up on his child who went wayward after being influenced by his friend and became non communicative with his family. His father kept telling him that, notwithstanding his personality change, he will always be there for him whenever he needed him. It was hopeless taking his son out of the change when he is obsessed over a thought that his ways are better. But one day, to his surprise, his son came back on his birthday stating that he had left a present in his father’s room. His father could not believe him. After dinner, when his father retired to the room he found a card from his son admitting he was wrong and asked him for forgiveness. He realised that apart from God, life is meaningless. He admitted that he loved the Lord more than his friend and was willing to give up that relationship. What joy there is in heaven besides the joy of the parents! That was the best birthday gift a father can ever receive from a child. No one can thwart God’s plans for His children. Job 42:2. God deserves the highest place. Who can speak and have it happen if it is not the Lord’s will to decree it? Lamentations 3:37. God does whatever He pleases.
So never give up no matter how heart breaking your situation maybe. Keep believing that God will make everything beautiful in His time. I am sure this story will change every mother’s view of her wayward child. Just be a good steward. Sons are heritage from the Lord and children are a reward from Him for us to nurture, nourish and steward. Psalm 127:3.
