2 Corinthians 13:5
5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
Today’s Inspiration: 2 Corinthians 13:5 is a reminder to us to know who we really are in Christ Jesus. Are there any carnality still within us to deal with? Our life is to honor God and since He lives in us, we need to ensure we examine ourselves daily. As we enter into the Chinese new year, let us examine our life before the Lord to ensure we are not disqualified from the Kingdom of God. This requirement is also imposed by David in Psalm 139:23-24 to humbly come to God to search him and know his heart, test him to see if there are any wickedness in him and lead him in the way everlasting. In fact, this should be our daily prayer. In partaking the Holy Communion, Apostle Paul speaks to the Corinthian church to examine themselves first before partaking of the bread and the cup. Holy Communion must be partaken in a worthy manner pleasing to God. 1 Corinthians 11:27-28. V31 exhort us to examine ourselves and turn to righteousness, so we will not be judged.
Many of us are reluctant to face the insights revealed by the Holy Spirit and hence they tend not to examine themselves each day before the Lord. We need to recognise and acknowledge those Stony parts in us that need to be examined and handed to Christ in true repentance with our whole heart. Even Apostle Paul admitted that he could not handle his carnal nature and he needed the Deliverance through Jesus Christ our Lord so that he will not be disqualified. Romans 7:25.
We need to spend time, meditating and praying, asking God if there are still carnal nature in our life that we need cleansing. Sometimes we think we know who we are but in the presence of God, we are surprised to receive insights from God beyond our imagination as He reached out to touch the very heart of our being. Checking if we are in alignment with God from time to time is so very essential. It’s a process of life that entails painful effort to ensure our entrance into His kingdom. Philippians 2:12-13 speaks about the process of working out our salvation.
We cannot afford to be disqualified from the Kingdom. Everyone of us has some form of heart sins which we carry with us since childhood and these heart sins like anger, bitterness, envy etc tend to manifest from time to time when we focus much on our work and neglect the time with God or being provoked. This is why we need to examine ourselves daily so we stay clean and not be disqualified.
Don’t be overly discouraged by what is revealed by the Holy Spirit. Rather than wallowing in discouragement when the heart sins are being revealed, make concerted efforts to get rid of their power over your lives, always telling the enemy that they have no right to your life and mind as you are being purchased by God with His blood. God is a consuming fire that can burn out the enemies of our soul. Hebrews 12:29.
It is always good to take control of the forces that tried to disqualify us by examining ourselves and rededication to the Lord from time to time. God be praised!
