1 Chronicles 4:10
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
Today’s Inspiration: One of the best prayers I enjoyed in my early years of walk with God was Jabez prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10. It should be in our prayer as it covers every aspect of our life’s requirements. In that prayer, he was asking God to bless him and enlarge his territory as in Isaiah 54:2 and that His hand would be upon him and that he will be kept from evil as in Psalm 23 and that he will not cause pain to others. God granted his request.
We are still living in both carnal nature as well as in the spirit and the spirit is always struggling against the flesh. To get rid of carnal nature, God has to deal ever so severely with us and it is only at this time do we pause to listen and act in obedience. We listen to God’s voice everyday because He chose to speak to us as He said in John 10:27 we should hear His voice as the sheep of His pasture. It takes faith to hear the voice of God. Romans 10:17. Hearing is never a problem but the commitment of obedience to this voice is a problem for many of us especially when the call is so challenging.
We have too many voices inside of us. There are also a lot of external voices and distraction of people wanting our time that caused us to procrastinate in our obedience to act on His voice. This is what caused us to get into trouble each time. We tend to overlook our biblical priority of seeking His purpose in everything that we do. We listen to what people tell us but before we get the full message we tend to program ourselves how to resist the things we don’t want to hear. So many a time we miss God and it’s a painful thing to fall into the hands of God. If Jesus is Lord, why don’t we hear His instructions? Luke 6:46.
It’s time we pay attention to that voice to stop that reasoning and wavering and believe God with all our hearts. John wrote of a new commandment of Jesus to love one another in John 13:34. By this all will know we are Jesus’disciples. V35. This includes loving our loved ones and those who tend to criticize and judge us and our rebellious kids. Are you finding difficulty loving a spouse who always opposed you and who does not care. Well, get back to Luke 6:46 where Jesus reminded us to listen to His voice and His commandment of loving one another. On the other hand, if you are the spouse who does not care, then it’s time to reflect this commandment again and Luke 6:46 reminding yourself that Jesus is Lord and commitment to obedience of His voice is no option.
May we open our ears to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is speaking to us this morning!
