13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
Today’s Inspiration: God is looking for a heart that is pursuing Him unto righteousness. The parable on the tax collector’s religious prayer was meant to portray that our heart is prone to sin and we need to be totally dependent on God’s grace. Luke 18:9-14.
Jesus was teaching that salvation begins with the humble receiving of God’s gift of forgiveness in Christ. Verse 13.
But this is not what Salvation ends. Humility is the way of life in the kingdom. Humility is not about being inferior and who continually degrades himself. He is a person who allows God to evaluate his life. He knows he is a sinner unworthy and helpless yet at the same time he knows that it’s only by God’s grace that he is made righteous, exalted by God to full membership in His eternal family. To know God truly is to bow down humbly before Him, and to believe in Him totally and gladly. These are the pillars of a godly and realistic self image which God desires and hasten His answers to our prayers. Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and He who humbles himself will be justified before God and will be exalted. Verse 14. God humbles us through sickness or lack of earthly resources to know more about Him inwardly and outwardly.
Pray Psalm 20 as it’s the promise of your protection, your success in your plans, victory in all that you do and salvation. Trust the name of the Lord and He will be near and the enemies will fall at your feet. Rise up and stand firm. May God accept all your offerings and remember them and grant you the success you are looking for. Psalm 20 is God’s assurance of security and fulfilment of your desires.
