How can we build up a God honouring conscience? The word is ‘consistency’. This is developed from childhood. We need to be consistent in our discipline. Without consequences for unacceptable behaviour and praises for acceptable behaviour communicated to a child as young as two, will end up in rebellion from them. The child cannot develop a conscience and when this is not developed, he or she resorted to be manipulative and controlling for a lifetime.
Children test their parents’ patience at the age of two. At this age they try to become their own authority and believe the world centres around their desires. Discipline is important for their learning as they discover the importance of boundaries and directives. Proper discipline is essential because it equals validation, attention and love. Without discipline with love, they grow up being rebellious. Rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft. 1 Samuel 15:23. When a child is showered with gifts and love only, without discipline, they will grow up manipulating and controlling others to get what they want and this is unhealthy in developing relationships as they grow up. With this tool in hand, your child will grow up to be able to operate corporately in the family, business, career or even serving in church. God be praised. His ways are higher than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9.
