1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
Today’s Inspiration: Majority of the people do not realise that sanctification is so important after receiving Christ. God’s will is for us to be sanctified completely and our spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful and He will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24.
When we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour and our Lord, our sins are washed away and our flesh suffers death but it must remain dead. We are not to revive it. We have to die daily Galatians 2:20 as we are sanctified by the truth. Anger is one emotion that cries for our attention and we should ensure we subdue it as it destroys our body. Every blasphemy, filthy language and malice of your past must be crucified. Colossians 3:8-10. You are now a new man renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created you. You should take on the characteristics of the new man.
Our old man which is our flesh must die. This death is accomplished only by inner healing. Yet many who receive inner healing are still reacting. This is because they do not exercise self-control. The old man keeps wanting to occupy the throne which Jesus is occupying. We keep laying down our life for others but not laying down our own life.
What is laying down our life? We are to offer our body as a living sacrifice Romans 12:1. In my battle for life, God brought me to worship. Worship lifts us up. When I was saved 30 years ago, it was worship that brings me to my knees and worship that cleanses me and enables me to reach out to the Lord and touched Him. Worship made us so clean and refreshed and enabled us to relate to Him better and loving others is made easier. So include worship in your devotion.
The command in Romans 12:1 is to present our body as a living sacrifice which contains our mind, our hearts and our spirits. It is the Body that bears burdens and the scorching heart of the day and the Body that bears the pain.
Some people tell me that they just needed devotion and that was good enough. Our heavenly Father would be more pleased if you perform His service to others and come to His lap for refreshment rather than be a cry baby coming to Him daily vying for attention without performing service. The labour of burden bearing is itself our spiritual service of worship specified in Romans 12:1.
Pain was given to us to wrestle that we might increase our faith and become a better person than we were. We become less self-centred and more Christ-centred. Pain caused us to cling onto the Head i.e. Christ, from whom all the Body is nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments that enhanced increase that is from God. Colossians 2:19. We are said to have hold fast to the Lord only when we worship, intercede for others and perform service to the Lord through ministry to others. Then return back to worship for refreshing. God be praised!
