27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.
Today’s Inspiration: The lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of man. It searches out it’s inner being. Proverbs 20:27. What has He revealed to you so far in your service to Him and in character, measuring your nature against His spiritual standard of measurement? We tend to think that the pursuit of Holiness depends upon our own will power, and our strength of character. This is far from the truth. We are both personally and solely dependent on our practice of godliness. Only the Holy Spirit exclusively can change our hearts but we must be willing to face the pain of the past as He convicts us by His word to repent.
Romans 12:2 requires us to be transformed by the renewal of our mind. The word ‘transformed’ implies we must be changed from within. It’s a total renovation of our values and desires. Have these priorities been changed so far? David prayed the prayer of transformation in Psalm 119:36-37. Paul also learnt to be totally dependent upon the Holy Spirit working within him to accomplish the change. Philippians 4:11-13. What a dramatic change in Paul as he realised his wickedness as he sought to know Him and the power of His Resurrection. After the change comes the power of the Holy Spirit to grant Him the Revelation that the world has ever known! What a commitment He had to serve Him with much endurance in sufferings! 2 Corinthians 4:13-18, 12:10.
Though it is the exclusive work of the Holy spirit to transform us, it takes effect only by our human responsibility to respond to His change.
A man’s steps are indeed directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand His own ways? Proverbs 20:24. We cannot serve God half heartedly or with human understanding but by our spiritual understanding He has given us through the diversity of gifts of the Holy Spirit allotted to us. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Apostle Paul was totally committed to the calling. God be praised.
